I have a bunch of works databases that I am transferring from my old computer and I do not have time to learn Microsoft Access!
There is no alternative available for Works since they stopped making it. I was also concerned that this would only work on a Dell computer, but I have an HP and it works great! I am so relieved. Thank you!! You saved me a lot of headaches! The product also arrived several days earlier than anticipated. It was supposed to be here on June 22nd, I got it today, June 18th and just installed it. I am able to open all of my old works databases. Well, I'm here to tell you that you do not have to lose the Files you have created, edited, printed, etc Thank You for having this CD still available in today's world to help me get on with my life!!!!
One person found this helpful. Having used Works 2. What I wanted was a simple word processor, a basic spreadsheet, and an onboard database capability.
Unfortunately, Microsoft no longer makes a current version, so it took me a year to locate Works 9, which was made for Vista, but it works just fine in Windows The word section is adequate for letter or article writing, spreadsheet can help set up a budget for home or home office, and database can do small business inventory or recipes.
There are preloaded templates for calendars, cards, announcements, all sorts of things. Just what I needed. I have used this program before and it is just that. I don't need all the bells and whistles of MS Office, and I don't want to spend the time learning it or the cash to buy it! I know that Microsoft doesn't offer support for Works any longer, but I think it's going to be just fine. I tried down-loading AOO. I failed twice. Then I found the official website and successfully downloaded it.
I found this copy complete with the case and booklet on Amazon. I'm happy to say that it installed itself on my computer without a hitch. I couldn't be happier! A word to anyone contemplating purchasing a used disk.
According to Microsoft it must be uninstalled on the computer that is was on originally. All rights pass to the new owner. You can make one back-up copy. Just thought you should know. When I recently bought a new computer, I was saddled with Microsoft Office after using a Works version of the word processing program for nearly ten years and the adjustment was a painful one, so painful that purchased a version of Microsoft Works 9.
Compared to Works, Office is just too unwieldy for me, with a tool bar that is way too complicated. For simple document and manuscript writing, Works 9. So too the matter of using the thesaurus and dictionary on Office, which can require up three or more manipulations of an icon on the toolbar.
In fact, locating such tasks as send to email, undo editing, find and replace, can become major search and retrieve missions on Office With Works 9. Why fight with bells and whistles when the original is available, that is why I went back to Microsoft Works 9.
For many years I had been using the Microsoft software, Works. The last operating one was Works 7. I was very sorry when last year, when installing my Windows 10 PC, I had the information that such a program was no longer supported by Microsoft. Fortunately I found Microsoft Works 9 on Amazon. Installation on my PC was very simple. The program works perfectly, so I was finally able to seamlessly open my Works data base. An installation question I asked the vendor, was answered immediately.

I had Works8 running on Windows 10 Pro but after a disc failure and reinstallation of Windows10 Home I lost the programme I bought Works9 from a dealer now seen same is cheaper on eBay!! Didn't want to risk buying a cheap "only for distribution with a new pc" version.
It loaded on in minutes and appears fully compataible I like the Works database as it is far easier to use then Access which i just cannot understand! Report abuse. I really love this word processing package. After experiencing the word for windows programmes that date from , this works programme takes me back to the good old days when the programme was simple to use.
No more shelved letters. The only omission is that it does not have an automatic save. But as I no longer write long documents, this is no longer an important attribute. The other featur is that it is not colourful, but then plain colours do not cause a distraction.
I used to have works8 on my computer but when windows10 came along it would no longer load up. So I bought works9 and it loaded up easy and everything is now ok.
